A friend of mine who is a wildlife biologist tells me these are snow geese that are migrating from northern Canada to the southern USA. This afternoon, I saw four large flocks of these arriving in Mississippi. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_goose

This log is also used by the turtles. Today (27 September 2023) I saw Rosie swim all the way across the pond (about 30 meters).
