Inside an old mustard pot

24 Nov 2019 16 16 241
Today's Sunday Challenge: Look at and take a photograph of something from a different perspective. This is the inside of an old silver mustard pot which has lost its glass interior. It's possible to see where the mustard spoon used to fit through the lid. It hasn't been cleaned for years. The PiP shows a tab;e lamp with the wire entering the base and the lampshade the wrong way round.

Nature's complement

The Saturday Self Challenge this week is: "Complementary Colours". Complementary colours are pairs of colours which, when placed next to each other, they create the strongest contrast for those two colors. Complementary colours may also be called "opposite colours." I have chosen to use the traditional colour wheel model which dates back to the 18th century and is still used by many artists today. This model designates red, yellow and blue as primary colors with the primary–secondary complementary pairs of red–green, blue-orange, and yellow–purple. Nature hasn't read the rules but manages to set the standard. The Holly and the Ivy

Happy floating fence Friday

The small River Tern in Attingham Patk had burst its banks and flooded much of the surrounding farmland. We have had it easy in Shropshire, as far as flooding is concerned, compared with other parts of the country.

Longannet Power station

23 Sep 2019 33 22 497
At the time of opening in the early 1970s Longannet was the largest power station in Europe with a capacity of 2,400 MW. Designed by Scottish architects Robert Matthew, Johnson Marshall & Partners, construction began in 1965 on land reclaimed from the Firth of Forth using ash from the Kincardine power station. The first electricity was generated in 1970 and the station was running at full capacity by 1973 once construction of all units was complete. In 2003 Longannet was identified as Scotland’s largest source of pollution. The power station closed in 2016 after 46 years of producing electricity. The closure marked the end of coal-fired generation in Scotland. Courtesy of: www.powerstations.uk/longannet-power-station-fife-scotland The power station is gradually being demolished. See below for video. Longannet Power Station Annex Demolition The tower was finally demolished yesterday. www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-scotland-59597883

I am sailing

The Saturday Self Challenge today is: Minimalism in Still life. The model is a small shiny aluminum sailing boat. Using Photoshop I converted the photo into B&W, then changed the threshold level. Finally I used PicMonkey to add a frame.

Time warp

This distortion was made by holding a wine glass horizontally with the bowl and stem in front of a clock. Unfortunately it's possible to see my fingers in the photo. ;-) The PiP shows how a tumbler of water in front of the subject can distort it.

This week's Sunday Challenge is: Distortion It was very easy and very effective just to use Photoshop for this challenge, but that wasn't really a challenge. So I tried a few other ideas. This photo of a clock face was taken through a glass of water. The PiP shows the distortion of the clock face again, through the bowl and stem of a wine glass. Pink Floyd - Time

Wells lifeboat station

www.wellslifeboat.org For recent call outs see above. The coastline length around mainland Great Britain is 11,072.76 miles [17,819.88 km], and the sea can be treacherous. This is a Royal National Lifeboat Institution building. The boats are used for saving lives at sea, and the folks who man them are all volunteers, who risk their own lives ever time there is a call out. There are 238 RNLI lifeboat stations around the coasts of Great Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
