Dear members and friends of ipernity,
1) In the comments to the last Newsflash again many suggestions for improvement were made. We will do our best to fulfill them. However, it is not possible to make changes that require modifications of the database. With a ten-year-old database recording millions of uploads, ratings and comments linked together, the risk of causing critical follow-up problems would be too great.
2) Technical support would be helpful to accelerate the processing of feasible proposals. Currently, the team has only one programmer, Rob Stamp, who is responsible for all the work.
▶️ If there are competent programmers in our club who are proficient in PHP and MySQL: Please ontact us to support Rob.
3) Now that our website is presentable, we want to start to make it better known. It must no longer happen that it is not even mentioned in a current overview of the 25 top online photo communities! We are aware that we still have numerous works in progress, but we no longer need to hide. Moreover, ipernity can only survive if the influx of new members exceeds the natural losses.
4) We therefore ask for help with the necessary promotional efforts. This includes research on multipliers (online journals, photo bloggers and other people who can reach a wider audience) as well as designing and producing articles, blogs, advertising spots, or other material. If you have talent and time for, please get in touch. Any amount of support would be appreciated.
▶️ If you want to involved with the advertising or have creative ideas, please join the following group: ipernity advertising.

Team club has replied to SpoOur IT service provider innovations ON is currently checking whether it is possible to transfer the ipernity main database to the Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS). This would make at least 6 servers obsolete and significantly improve operational reliability. Because with RDS there is a much lower risk of failure. We also save costs. So far the theory.
If the migration is successful, we would have a parallel database for a period of time. We would have to test it intensively for one to three months to make sure that we would not have a elementary disaster if we switched off our own servers. This work runs in the background. If it is successful, we will let you know in due course. Then we would need a group of volunteer testers.
raingirl club has replied to Daniela Brocca clubRob is, and always has been, our only volunteer programmer. We have hired a couple of different firms for programming that are both very expensive. We use them as little as possible as our funds have to be very carefully used. Thus the appeal for support for Rob.
Team club has replied to Daniela Brocca clubIn December 2016 the insolvency and the shutdown was announced. In 2017 we members bought the highly indebted website and refurbished it. Since then we have to do everything ourselves in our club. Because every purchased programming hour costs 150 EUR + VAT. Therefore we can only have existential special tasks done by external programmers.

Thank you for the compliments on our efforts and the results achieved so far.
However, we would rather have some people come forward to support us. This is not only necessary to start the PR measures that are now urgently needed, but also with regard to the regulation of replacements within the ima-team. If even one of the current key members of the ima-team were to leave, our association would have an existential problem. You are probably not even aware of this risk. That is why we are expressing it very clearly here.
It is necessary that a few more members at least get used to the rountines, so that they can take over the daily business in case of emergency. In other words: Until the next general meeting (in 6 months) competent representatives should be trained for each ima team member.
Apart from that, the now urgently needed public relations work can only be done by a larger team. So give up your reticence and get engaged please.
Get involved, if the future of ipernity is important to you.

Peter Castell club has replied to D.J. HendersonIf you look at the comments on any of the newsflashes they are mainly always from the same group of members, how many bothered to express an opinion about the Esperanto proposal
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Peter Castell clubMany of us (including me) just "uses" ipernity like some rented flat. How we can make people to take care of something? Or is it even possible or necessary?
But ipernity could become and be something that people loves like their own owned property.
Although, I do understand it has been a very busy and stressful time for all of us lately. Hopefully we all find more time and energy to get something done about this.

Peter Castell club has replied to HappySnapperYou do see some younger people with cameras in Leicester I suspect they are at one of the universities possibly doing something like design. I have wondered if there should be a student membership rate. I feel sure there are students and young people who would love the chance to assist with the programming, it's their world, finding them is another matter
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Peter Castell clubI am drooling after even better camera phones all the time. I even think they actually can make me a better photographer. Something like Kodak Instamatic was actually not much different than today's camera phones. Cameras like those opened the world of photography to many amateur photographers. Although, the latest camera phones are actually amazingly good.
I do not see the "forgetting the past" as a bad thing either. That happens also here at ipernity all the time. Only very seldom I see anyone visiting my old photos, unless I personally choose to "bump up" them somehow (e.g. share on some group as a new).
Even in a world of "disposable photographs" there can be such things as aesthetics and improvement of photography skills. And there we seniors could try to "educate" the juniors. We could share our ideas on what to improve and what to see as worth to try. But it should also include the reasons why. Like ideas on why golden ratio may please the eye. No need to implement it though, and one can rebel against it, but often the best way to rebel is to learn the technique first and learn by doing.
And actually what I have discovered as the best way to learn photography is to indeed take at least one new photo each day, share it, and also view at least one photo shared by someone else every day.
Bergfex club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… clubSpo has replied to Peter Castell clubThe trend is totally understandable, since it mimics our lives, the photo stream is just like our memories, haphazard recollections from here and there. Yesteryear we shot only the most valuable events of our lives with our equally valuable cameras, now we share our everyday lives, all the time, with cheap plastic things. Apps like TikTok that share short videoclips are the next step in that continuum.
Why? Because it is possible. The equipment you do this with does not matter at all anymore, all cameras are now good enough, most of the time too good, they all have stuff we never use. The only exceptions are people who shoot wildlife or stars.
The future? Since we live in the eyes of others, since we do what we think we are expected to do, our digital lives will come more important than the analog ones. My wild guess is that sooner or later each of us will stream live video 24/7 – voluntarily or not. There'll may be some rebel hermits who escape the online society to the woods with their SLRs, but the police will find them sooner or later with their heat-seaking drones.
Spo has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… clubHappySnapper has replied to Peter Castell clubHeidiho club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… clubHeidiho club has replied to SpoA lot of hours day by day I`m on Instagram, watching: the times the `re changin`... youngsters with drones show us the world from above, "reels" =mini-videos+music) make us dreaming to be in another world.
