Mailed May 23, 1914 from the Sault (Ont.) to P. Sanger, Trenton, Mich. with the note: "In Dry town where they only play Rum & Crib for a whole week. Be home Monday."

A Tichnor Bros. card, made in Boston, Mass. and numbered 69424. The card is obviously generic (although a very nice generic) with "Hilton Beach" etc. just stamped on. It is unused. I would guess that it dates from around 1940 but it is hard to say. A very nice linen card with a colour palette that makes one think of sun, sand and sea.

Here is the International Road Bridge (white) with the Railway Swing Bridge (black, opened here to allow canal traffic to pass) and the amazing red bridge, which is actually an emergency control for the canal. In 1909 it was used ... it swings across the canal in case the lock collapses (as it did then) and holds the water back by means of a series of battens that are lowered one by one from the bridge to stop the rushing water. I took a picture of the sign that explains this (better) which I will upload at some point.

Not entirely sure where this was ... somewhere around Manitoulin Island.

The bridges (rail and highway) linking the twin cities of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (in background), across the St. Mary's River (with shipping canals and the five locks -- four in the USA and one in Canada). The large industrial area on the Canadian side is the Algoma Steel Corporation, now Indian-owned and renamed Essar Steel Algoma.
