Armenia, Lake Sevan. Founded in 874AD the monastery sits on a peninsula on this expansive lake, a favoured summer spot for land-locked Armenians. Armenia, as a whole country, converted to Christianity in 301AD, and the Armenian Apostolic Church is still a pillar of this deeply religious society. It is still used, and is a popular site for worshippers to visit.
