HFF…no, not lying..there is a guard fence along the highway, visible if the photo is viewed very large.
This is ascending the Highway in far north Pakistan, with autumn colours and the mighty 6-7000m Passu Cones as background.
The Ismaili Wakhi communities live in villages along this river valley. It is not far from where my darling Wakhi family lives. I love it so much up here.
Have a peaceful, happy and productive weekend. Love ❤️

Gulmit, North Pakistan, where my beloved adopted family lives. In autumn. The landscape is formed by, and built into, the rugged, jagged mountains. In these narrow river valleys between towering peaks, generations have fought to create as much usable flat areas of land. The best..for cultivation, thé more undulating and rocky, for livestock. The animals are taken to high altitude alpine pastures at 4000+ meters for summer, and brought back down for autumn/ winter.
Happy peaceful Friday, and wishing a weekend of lovely photo ops…and some kind weather.

The Passu Cones are a striking Karakoram formation of 6000m jagged peaks which are a backdrop to the village of Passu, in Gojal, far North Pakistan. Driving towards them and winding and ascending through them on The Karakoram Highway leads to the 4700m Khunjerav Pass, and the China border. The fences or border markers here are all stone as it is the most easily available building material. Wood is precious and limited in supply.
Wishing a peaceful Friday and weekend during this post- Christmas period and into 2025.
If only the whole world were at peace….

Gojal, North Pakistan.
Have a bit of electricity and wifi.
Thanks for all the kind and lovely responses to my letter about travelling for a while. I was very moved to receive them. I have not had internet and electricity to respond individually. I am currently in this beautiful part of the world, which I love so much.
Wishing a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend.
Love
Diana

Driving through glacial moraine at 4000m in one of the remotest parts of North Pakistan. Almost touching the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan. The landscapes are jaw droppingly gigantic, reducing one to feeling like an insignificant grain of sand. The moraine is the roadway here.
Wishing you a fabulous Friday, and a wonderful weekend.
Thanks for visiting…Diana oxox

Happy Friday! This is Gulmit in North Pakistan on the Karakoram Highway. My much loved ‘adopted’ family lives here and I love staying and spending time in this remote little village which I first visited 24 years ago. The mountains in the distance are 6-7000m and the highway climbs up to the Chinese border on the high Khunjerav Pass at 4700m, about 2 hours along from here.
Hope you have a fabulous weekend. I have been busy rehearsing and performing a lot lately, so have been a bit absent,…sorry!
Cheers…Diana

Pakistan. In the high Pamir, surrounded by 6000m + peaks. The lake has farm fields with stone fences. The mountains cut off the light increasingly early in the afternoons as autumn progresses.
I thank you for your visit. Wishing you a peaceful and pleasant Friday, and a weekend with enjoyable weather and activities.

Far North Pakistan, heading up to a remote valley on the mountainous Afghan border. Stopped for a bite to eat. Loved this marvellous menu wall. Lots of fresh mountain trout up here from the clean streams.
Have a terrific day.

At very high altitude on the Pakistan- Afghan border, where temperatures are -40°C in winter. There is an Ismaili Shia shrine here to a Sufi saint. It is very difficult of access on stony, narrow mountain tracks over rickety bridges crossing vertiginous drops. It is a pilgrimage site. This couple maintain the shrine and welcome travellers with a cup of tea and bread, in the summer. It is one of the remotest, highest, and most beautiful parts of our planet. This is at the absolute end of the dodgy road…then it is just 7000m peaks and Afghanistan
May your weekend bring a host of happy things and photographic opportunities.
Love from the mad Australian wanderer! ❤️

HFF or stone wall Friday. A small home at the end of a torturous 6 hour high altitude track in the Chipurson Valley, North Pakistan. At 4000 meters in altitude, surrounded by 6-7000m peaks, it marks the end of a road, right at the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan where Tajikistan and Pakistan almost meet. It is uninhabited except for high altitude summer pastures for yak and goats, and for a Shia Sufi shrine which is visited on pilgrimages by inhabitants of North Pakistan. Locals also sometimes walk over the very high mountain passes into Afghanistan or Tajikistan to meet relatives and family members in the largely Ismaili communities on the other sides of the border. The mountains in the picture are Afghanistan
Have a fabulous Friday and an exhilarating weekend. ❤️

Gojal, Hunza. Far North Pakistan at altitude among the 6-7000 meter peaks of the jagged Karakoram Range. These are the pinnacles of the Passu Cathedrals, or Tupopdan in local Wakhi language.
Just arrived home after 6+ weeks in very remote, sparsely populated, and stunning high altitude landscapes, mostly adjacent to the border with Afghanistan.
Wishing everyone a top Friday and a fab weekend. Will try to get to visiting soon!
Diana ❤️

And HFF too..from the most peaceful and beautiful spot I know, the village of Passu in far North of Pakistan in the Pamirs. The 6-7000meter Passu Cones form the backdrop
Wishing you the warmest and happiest of festive seasons. I aplologise for being a bit absent…lots of Christmas singing rehearsals and performances.

My favourite place...in slightly younger days. A bit unsafe to visit now! Up in the high Karakoram/ Pamir Ranges, near the border with China...crossing a bridge over raging waters! I uploaded it as a personal historical perspective ( taken 11 years ago)
