From the motel

The view over the forecourt of the motel in Paihia, as seen through the reception area window (with some reflections). Have a Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend, everyone.

Meeting of waters

Cape Reinga, at the far northern tip of New Zealand, is where the Pacific Ocean to the east meets the Tasman Sea to the west. They have different water circulations and, apparently as a consequence, the different colours and the conflicting wave structure seen here. Best viewed full screen.

Bay of Islands benches

17 Jun 2024 29 26 303
Our cruise around the Bay of Islands finally stopped at Urupukapuka Island, where there is a cafe at Otehei Bay. It was becoming a little cool and not 'outside' weather at this stage, so you have your choice of outdoor benches. Best viewed large to choose. Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.

Cape Brett Lighthouse

This lighthouse is automated, as is now standard. It is not open to the public, though the former lightkeeper's house is being restored, I gather for holiday rentals. I also found the former landing and resupply jetty interesting (see PiP).

Motuarohia Island

13 Jun 2024 24 12 161
I'm reasonably confident that this is Motuarohia Island (Maori) aka Roberton Island, considered to be one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand's Bay of Islands. Unfortunately our tour didn't allow time for us to land there.

Hole in the Rock

12 Jun 2024 27 18 215
On a good day the tourist boats go through the "hole" (see also PiP). The weather wasn't good enough when we visited, though we went close. More details of this here. Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.

Out to sea

Off on the catamaran (previous image) to visit the Bay of Islands in New Zealand. A cold front moving through with some showers added interest to the skies.

Jetty fence

Tourist catamaran at its jetty in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. Have a Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend, everyone.
