La Jamais Contente

15 Mar 2025 13 10 69
I've long been interested in historic cars and this one deserves far more recognition. It is "La Jamais Contente", which in 1899 became the world's fastest road vehicle and the first to exceed 100 km/hr. It also ran on an electric motor. I saw it in the museum at Le Bourget Airport in Paris (it is now in the National Car and Tourism Museum in Compiègne). I thought ot this when I visited an electric vehicle show in Sydney (the PiP shows just a tiny corner of the large building-wide display). .

From 1956

Renault Fregate from 1956 among a street of late 1800s houses in Bathurst. Processing to match seemed essential. Some fences there too, so HFF everyone.

On the circuit

View large. Mount Panorama is (locally, at least) one of Australia's most famous motor racing circuits, located just outside Bathurst where we were holding our Renault gathering (see earlier images). We had to do a lap! There's quite a climb involved (see PiPs and link above), so somehow I doubt our little cars threatened the lap record. :-) The Renault Alpine A310 in the foreground may have done better. HFF, everyone - plenty of fence choices in this series.

It's the Dart!

Many Goggomobiles were sold in Australia in the 1950s with a locally-produced glass fibre body, under the model name of "Dart". They're now uncommon and collectable. They also featured in a couple of (locally) memorable TV commercials (not sure if these are suitable for the group Sight and Sound, but I'll try it as there's background music in the second :-)). They're short and good fun, as commercials go... tinyurl.com/jsmayle and tinyurl.com/guwnk7j Explored.

Meet Brigette

This is a 1958 Renault 4CV. I'm heading away with her for about a week, to catch up with a few more of them (see inset, also www.4cvregisteraustralia.org ). Best wishes to all, I expect to be online only infrequently while away. View on black. Explored.

1930s Ford Special

04 Jul 2014 11 4 754
The monthly competition for the Prime Lenses (fixed focal length) group this month (July) is for images of cars or motorcycles. Only one restriction - they must be taken with a prime lens. This is my initial entry. It is a 1930s vintage Ford special, seen at a 'lap dash' day held at a circuit near Melbourne. If you use prime lenses, why not join the group and enter the competition? Car or Motorcycle?

Is it a car or motorcycle? It is a Morgan, running on three wheels and with a motorcycle engine. Explored.
