For Macro Mondays Group, topic 248, 14 March 2022.
Set subject: "Signs of spring"
In my half of the world, spring is not at this time of year. When it does arrive, it's generally considered to be epitomised by the flowering of the Wattle trees. This is from Silver Wattle (Acacia dealbata) .
Crimson Turkey Bush

The Crimson Turkey Bush grows in the desert and semi-arid areas from western Queensland and New South Wales to the West Australian coast. Being there in the winter and spring months is the time to see these in flower.

From the archives. I was playing around looking at macro images and found this, which I've never previously done anything with. I hope the Easter bunnies brought you all lots of chocolate. Stay safe, everyone.
Scented Sun Orchids #2
17 Oct 2017 |
|
|
|
The Scented Sun Orchid (Thelymitra aristata) is a native Australian orchid that likes sandy soils. There's no shortage of sand in the Mallee area of Victoria, so they were quite prolific. These flowers were about 4cm across. Best viewed large.

These small phalaenopsis orchids are putting on a great display at present.

Dew on a little native flower that grows on bushes along the coast in eastern Australia. The flowers are 10-15mm long. Better viewed large.
I'll be away for about a week now and probably mainly offline. Enjoy yourselves. :-)

Not as they seemed

I was very taken by the abundant colourful yellow flowers on the hillsides and alongside the roads in New Zealand's South Island, until I found they were gorse and broom - invasive weeds. So I decided to use my macro of them for this orb.
Here's a musical link.

Flowers of a potted bougainvillea (it became too invasive when in the garden).

The characteristic red burst of a callistemon (bottlebrush) flower. Taken for the monthly competition in the Silver Surfers group.
Protea

Friends gave us a bunch of these lovely protea flowers, native to South Africa. The complex details in this flower are amazing (you will need to view large), though to me the inset shot is more appealing.

A native of the Australian east coast and currently flowering in the local nature reserve.
*Update* I've been out in the bush today and found a 'fresher' one, now added as a second shot in a note.

Floral Fireworks
19 Oct 2014 |
|
|
|
If my ID is correct, these are the flowers of the Black Wattle Acacia Mearnsii which is a native to this area. Each flower is only about 1cm across, but they remind me of bursting fireworks (or is that just my imagination :)).

The flowering of the jacarandas is always welcome. Quite a windy day, hence the shutter speed.
Brush wattlebird feeding

Brush Wattlebird enjoying a meal of nectar from a Banksia flower spike. With the Pentax, the focal length needs to be entered for manual lenses - I forgot to change it for this shot with the 100mm from earlier use with a 50mm, hence the wrong FL shown in the EXIF info.

Taken with Pentax SMC M macro 100mm f4.0 on K10D camera - and with an obliging bee. :)
