a new artwork in the church, a thing to be applauded. technically skillful, as these figures are ceramic, and their monochrome finish fits in well here. I'm not sure that their current position is the best: it seems somewhat temporary, especially the box that they stand on, but I'm sure that they'll find their place and settle in eventually. I presume that the ascension is the subject. some figures work really well, others seem to be fillers and lack emotional force. still, far better than most modern artwork in churches, and a brave effort at a difficult grouping. always better to aim high than to stay in your comfort zone. these photos don't do the group justice either; it was a freezing cold day. (edit) I'd thought that this was an ascension, but is apparently a calvary. it's by neal french.

I wrongly presumed that the ascension was the subject but it's a passion, and is by neal french. some figures work really well, others seem to be fillers and lack emotional force. still, far better than most modern artwork in churches, and a brave effort at a difficult grouping. always better to aim high than to stay in your comfort zone. these photos don't do the group justice either; it was a freezing cold day.
