the south aisle was rebuilt entirely in 1864 after the pinnacled porch of 1840 by vulliamy was moved from atop the frere vault to the east. it now contains the organ, but looks like a mausoleum as no entrance arch remains externally; perhaps it was entered from one side when built. the top of the ?c13 round tower was added in 1864 too.

the tower probably dates from around 1200, and whilst the west window and top octagon date from 1846, they replace similar features of perhaps c.1350.

faces are carved at the springing of the simple arches that make up the south arcade cut through the wall in the late c13. those facing the nave look mediaeval if tidied up, whereas those facing the aisle rebuilt in victorian times look modern.

royal arms of queen anne of 1707-14 on the shield, despite the georgian cipher above and the wrong motto for anne, both probably added in 1791 when a mr. heath repainted the arms. it is said that the overpainted date 1688 has been seen on the arms, and an inspection of the photo reveals a much larger higher garter existed once on these boards, which an x-ray would reveal.

the pulpit looks jacobean, yet includes machined wood, so was either seriously repaired or built from odd panels in the victorian period.

this tiny memorial is set into the east wall near the floor behind the altar, and is to martha, wife of the vicar robert horner, who came here in 1625 and was replaced c.1647 just after the civil war.
