a spectacular high victorian mural explodes across the west wall of the nave, probably dating from phipson's mid 1860s restoration. full marks to the parish for looking after that which so many others would have destroyed.

round tower base, n. side. see flushwork squares to base with squared cut flint. because of this, when pevsner says norman, I say at least a complete c14 or later rebuild . see also the undisturbed[?] windows, and especially the brick lined putlog holes. anyone want to argue the toss? the flushwork crosses on the aisle wall look to have been tidied up in the 1860s.
