church rebuilt from 1714 to a design by john james , though the mediaeval tower remained until 1747, when lancelot dowbiggin built the present one. every other time that I'd been here, the nave had been locked though visible from the atrium under the west gallery, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it fully open when I stuck my head in on the off chance.

only the tower of the church is still of the mid c18 by dowbiggin, the porch dating from 1903 replacing his rounded portico. bombs destroyed the body of the church in the war; it was rebuilt by seely and paget inthe mid 1950s
