the spire was built in 1751-4 by launcelot dowbiggin when the mediaeval parish church was replaced, and is old fashioned enough for its date to be seen as a last gasp for london baroque in a palladian age. the rest of his church fell victim to nazi bombs, the nave etc of 1954-6 is by seely and paget
