Get organized!

Many times the 'Organize' tool does the job quick and easily.
For example:
1) Choose one album via 'Albums' tab, and click the album title.
2) Then use the drop down menu 'Edit these items' on top right.
3) Choose for example 'Keywords', and you can then define a new keyword to all images in that album at once.
Also try to use the 'Advanced search' feature above the bottom film strip. You can for example search and choose all images taken on the same month of a year, and change some setting for all of them.
More tips updated onto this photo article maybe later. If so, then this photo made to pop up as a new post.
Send message to all or selected group members

You may have noticed the new group feature, which allows the group administrators to send messages to group members.
On the following message form, there are then links to add all fellow administrators, moderators and/or members as recipients.
But what you may not know or noticed yet, is that you can also choose selected recipients . All members of the group are then "your contacts". There "you" means you as a group administrator. This is why you can add also group members as recipients, even if they are not your personal contacts.
Start writing the name onto recipient field, and the system then suggest names of the group members. This is better way to add recipients especially if there are hundreds of members in the group, and you wish to send message to only some of them. Alternatively you can add all members, and then start to exclude people, but it would then become much more time consuming.
P.S. Do notice you can not use this feature to contact non-members. So, if there are for example contributions by former members, you have to contact them separately, if need to.
Edit keywords in case of capitonym errors

Capitonym?
"A capitonym is a word that changes its meaning when it is capitalized." - Wikipedia
One may wonder why there may appear different keywords for cases like bridge and Bridge , thus also producing different browsing results, and referring to different keyword ID numbers.
Keyword search for photos and documents is not case sensitive. So, you do not need to care about capitalization when using the photo or document search narrowed down to keywords only.
But the keywords themselves are case sensitive. That affects when opening the keywords from the Explore Keywords , or when opening the keywords given next to each document.
Sometimes there can be even a good reason to make the difference. So, if someone actually does want to use upper case first letter keyword Bridge for the images of Bridge in Kent , then unfortunately capitonym errors may cause "noise". Or in case of words that is the same in different languages, like [DE] Winter and [EN] winter . Then it makes sense to add both.
Even when the document search is not case sensitive, one should still be careful on how to use keywords to avoid errors caused by capitonym. The recommendation is that people should follow the language specific grammar.
Think of your audience. For example German nouns should be capitalized. If you wish to help people to find your images with keywords in most used languages, then provide for example German keywords (nouns capitalized), English keywords (names of the places capitalised) and French keywords according to French grammar.
If you wish to correct some of your own capitonym errors, then go to your 'Photos' and open the 'Search by keywords' option from the 'Photos' drop down menu.
What you get is the index list for all of the keywords you have ever used. Then check through especially names of the places, hover (point with cursor) on the keyword you wish to correct, and choose 'Edit' (see the main image).
But if you have had a "bad habit" to use upper case first letter for all of the keywords you have been using for years, then this would turn out as an overwhelming task.

Testing Screencastify for making "ipernity howto"…

The subject is "How to customize your homepage". First the basics:
1) Go to " Content of your home page " settings.
2) Use green plus to add block(s).
3) Grab on the block header to change it's place. Over the block header, press the mouse cursor down, keep it pressed, and then start moving the block. Then release the mouse cursor to leave the block where you want it.
4) Do not forget to SAVE!
Do notice the default "Latest photos and videos posted" block is fixed. It's place can be changed, but it can't be removed. It also turns from large images to small ones when it is not the only block on the homepage.
----
Details of the video
This video was created with Screencastify . It is probably available as a Chrome browser extension only. It is free to use up to 5 minute videos.
On Screencastify there are tools to share and download videos in multiple ways. I converted the video onto mp4 format, downloaded it, and then uploaded it here at ipernity. This short video takes 9 megabytes space at the server. If you are planning to do similar videos, then be prepared for uploads that can take a lot of time, and keep the videos short to save your personal space at ipernity.
And if you do "ipernity howto" instructions by yourself, then please use the "ipernity howto" keyword.

It is pretty easy to upload videos to your ipernity account. You can upload videos just like any other files. However, video files are really large, and therefore uploading to rather "slow" ipernity servers takes time and space! And of course you also need to have Standard or Plus subscription here at ipernity in order to upload such large files as videos usually are.
To upload this video took approximately 8 minutes on WiFi connection. For faster uploads and to decrease the use of storage space, it would be better to compress the videos somehow. For example there are some iPhone and Android apps for video compression available, if you are using smart phone. There are also all kinds of video compression software for computers .
You can also consider whether you really need to shoot in full HD 1920×1080 px quality in the first place. VGA 640x480 px can be enough for videos shared on web pages . For example on my older video taken with Panasonic DMC-TZ60 thanks to lower resolution the file size was only 8 MB for 15 second video. So, check out if you can change the settings for lower video resolution on your camera.
This test video was filmed on and uploaded from my smart phone. The video is so called full HD video, which of course is more or less the standard these days. But if one plans to start shooting videos on regular bases, I say ipernity really is not the best place to upload, store and share video files.
Therefore I personally recommend YouTube instead. I know many hates anything Google related, but if you do have Google account, then you can also use Youtube. If you do, then you can easily also share your videos here on ipernity blog articles. For that I have also published a quick tutorial:

How to search? What special symbols can be used? How to download albums?
You can find plenty of useful blog articles and photo articles tagged with ipernity-howto keyword.
There are also number of older ima team blog articles not (yet) tagged with ipernity-howto keyword. Most of them are listed on FAQ article How to use ipernity .
If those sources fail to cover the topic you are looking for, you can also ask help from other users at Ipernity User Help Central group .
You can also write and publish your own howto posts and use "ipernity-howto" keyword. If you are not sure whether your post is good enough to share like this, then please ask here on comments. Feedback on my ipernity-howto photos and Ipernity-howto blog articles is also welcome under each of them.
If and when you use "ipernity-howto" keyword, make sure you write it inside quotation marks, exactly like this: "ipernity-howto"
How to view notes on touch screen
14 Jan 2020 |
|
|
|
Android phones and tablets (tested on Chrome):
On a single image view:
1) Long press on image (touch the screen and hold the finger down)
2) If dialog to do further actions with the image opens, click "back" ( ◄ or ← or ⮐ or some other symbol), or click the screen somewhere outside of the opened action menu.
3) Now the small note boxes should be visible, and you can tap on each of them to see each of those notes. It is recommended to start from the notes on bottom. So, you can then proceed to notes above.
UPDATE January 14, 2020, the solution for iPad mini iOS 9.3.5:
On a single image view:
1) Long press on the image
2) Click anywhere on the page outside of the menu that opened, to get it disappear
3) Click anywhere on the image. Now instead of opening the image on full screen, the notes should appear.
Set privacy before you upload!

It is strongly advised to choose the level of image privacy before the images become uploaded. If you upload images as public, when they are supposed to become turned as private and shared for example with family only, anyone online gets a few seconds or even minutes chance to view and comment those images.
So, consider setting the access permissions before you upload.
First hover the cursor over one of the files you are going to upload:
Then click on it to open the permission settings seen on the main image. Choose " Apply to all files to upload ", and click 'APPLY'.
If for some reason this does not work for you, and you get an error message instead, then please check that you don't have an extension blocking ipernity.com .
Or use 'Organize' tool to do the same:
We also discovered a bug. If you upload images first as public, and next fave them (add star) before you turn them private, those images then stay visible on your personal faves:
www.ipernity.com/doc/serola/favorite/self
There on my personal faves among my own photos you should not see a photo of egg shells. But you do because of a bug in the ipernity code.
Whitelist ipernity for advertisement blocker exten…
06 Nov 2019 |

If you are missing some features like unable to add location on the map or unable to change the authorization on uploader, then you may have some extension blocking those features. What you then have to do is whitelist ipernity.com. How to do that may vary, but here's how to do that on AdBlock for Firefox:
On AdBlock Dashboard and whitelist you add a new line and write there the URL address of ipernity home page and put /* into the end of the line. The asterisk symbol * in the end of the URL means that all pages under that web site are then ignored by AdBlock extension. The syntax may vary, but this is probably the most common one.
There are many different advertisement blocking extensions, and how to access and edit the whitelist on them can be tricky. I do recommend visiting on their own help pages to find out more specific instructions. You can also ask and share help here on comments.
Ignoring (whitelisting) all pages at ipernity can be done because we do not have any advertisements here. Well yes, those SPAM accounts popping out on daily bases of course, but we keep on trying to get them all deleted as soon as they rise their ugly heads. They should not much bother anyone if you stay out of images uploaded recently by all ipernity users .

Share private photo, album or article
20 Jan 2020 |

In October 2017 I discovered a cool feature at ipernity, which I never had understood before.
On your own private or family only photos, album and articles you can copy an unique URL address which you can for example email to your friends. With that unique URL the visitor can then access your photo or article to view it, even if the person does not have an account at ipernity.
Moreover, on your 'Sharing and Social networks' settings page you can control those unique URL shares under section 'Sharing of private content outside ipernity':
www.ipernity.com/pref/socialnetwork
You can later on disable access of single unique URL addresses, or change the expire date for all of them.
The recommended order to use this feature:
1) First decide how long in general you wish to let these unique URL addresses be available. Go to the settings and choose between 7, 30, 90 and 365 days: www.ipernity.com/pref/socialnetwork
2) Then go to the private or family only photo, album or article you wish to share. Click the share button (see the example image above). You will see the Warning and form field where from you can copy the unique URL.
3) Later on, and as long as that unique URL is available, you will get that URL also on the page margin under the title 'This album is shared outside ipernity' or 'Sharing outside ipernity'.
4) You can for example email that URL to your friends, and they can use it to view the shared page as long as it is set available. The person(s) who use that URL don't even have to have account at ipernity.
5) On each of share item, and also on your 'Sharing and Social networks' page you can disable the access whenever you find it necessary. Otherwise the access will become disabled after the expire date you have defined.
If the content you share is an album, it can contain both: public and limited access images (private or family only). The person who uses the unique URL will see them all.
UPDATE August 2020: Basics explained
1) For photos, articles and docs the unique URL becomes created only when one clicks the share icon on a private or family only photo. In case of albums the unique URL becomes available when there are at least one private photo in that album.
2) The access code (link) cookie can be disabled on the page itself (appears on bottom right when refreshing the page where the code is requested), or via social media settings page:
www.ipernity.com/pref/socialnetwork
Where one then gets link to list of existing cookies:
www.ipernity.com/pref/gp
3) On the list page one can also define the cookie expire default time. Meaning that the hard to guess private access URL addresses can last 365 days in maximum.
4) To make the album itself as private can be done via 'Tools > Edit titles, authorizations... > Authorizations (tab)'.

How social you are?
13 Oct 2017 |
|
|
|
I suggest sharing your ipernity posts for example at:
- Your own Facebook and/or Twitter account
- Facebook Ipernity Members Association Support Group: www.facebook.com/groups/174778729701794
- IPERNITY IN SOCIAL MEDIA group: www.ipernity.com/group/socialmedias
First make sure your Sharing and Social networks settings are in order: www.ipernity.com/pref/socialnetwork
Then use the share button and options right next to your images and articles. Don't forget the hashtags (keywords)! But do not use too many, and try to be on topic. For example on your holiday pictures taken at Paris, France you can add the following hashtags at Facebook and Twitter: #photography #Paris #ipernity #cityscape
Here at ipernity use keywords. Hashtags and keywords helps people interested on those topics to find your pictures on social media.
Also do remember social media is not just about sharing, but also paying attention on what others are sharing. Re-share, follow, like and comment on what others are posting, to become inspired, and to inspire others as well.

Sharing and Social networks
24 Oct 2017 |

The automatic sharing for ipernity uploads does not work anymore. Therefore it got removed entirely on December 9, 3030. Facebook and Twitter accounts can't be connected because they do not allow login from insecure parts of ipernity pages (http). And very likely all other services are going to do the same, if not done already.
I will update the whole article, once we hopefully soon again are able to upload new files.
One can still use the manual sharing buttons displayed on the right hand side of photos and articles.
This also allows others to share your photos and articles. To enable the sharing buttons, choose YES for social media networks where you wish to allow the sharing.
An alternative way is to copy and paste the page URL. On pages where one main image appears, it is then picked to become shared on the other social media service.
