...after rock concert.
Soundtrack by Eppu Normaali, 'Tahroja paperilla' ('Stains on the paper', unfortunately only available on Youtube): youtu.be/4n4ocBknicU
I took the picture to show how bright the artificial lights are on a stadium like this, and also because the view was rather exceptional. Short after the event there are still at least several thousand people on the arena, whereas the seats have already emptied.
Tampere Stadium is as one may guess, made mainly for the sports events. The seating capacity is for 16,800 people. But during concerts, when the arena becomes filled by people, and the seats behind the stage are not used, there is space enough for 30,000 people.
Me and my wife were there to see (and hear!) concert by the most famous Finnish rock band Eppu Normaali. They were celebrating 40th anniversary, played over 40 songs during four hours, together with Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, lead by nationally famous and well known Santtu-Matias Rouvali.
What comes to Eppu Normaali rock band, they have made many songs, which well describe the Finnish melancholic soul landscape (see the song translation on soundtrack video).
This picture is also my contribution for The Sunday Challenge 'Sports', and this is as close to the subject I manage to come up during last week. Eppu Normaali actually started as a punk rock band, and they have made many good satires on current issues like being madly obsessed by sports. On their song 'Urheiluhullu' ('Sports maniac') they make fun out of a person who has turned his back to philosophy and intelligence, and instead started to compete on sports like a madman.

Found from the archives. Picture taken in 2010, with 3.2MP Sony Ericsson K800i phone camera. It had a nice feature to stitch 2-3 images into panorama, which could be used to create interesting combined images right on the camera. And sometimes I still wonder how surprisingly good images it took. You may remember seeing the phone used by James Bond in the 2006 Casino Royale film and trailers =D

Contribution for The Sunday Challenge: Leisure (poem) by a welsh poet W.H Davies
" What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare. "

...I wasn't in the mood. My Canon G12 got broken and it will cost 140 euros to get it repaired. Meanwhile I had to use other cameras of mine. Here I played with Olympus Tough camera's panorama feature, which sucks, but can produce interesting pictures when used creatively. On this shot I also tested selective Gauss blur docs.gimp.org/en/plug-in-sel-gauss.html

Setting inspired by Philippe Halsman: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippe_Halsman
This is also my contribution for The Sunday Challenge "Something which grows, and using on-camera-effects only". On Panasonic Lumix TZ60 camera there is an on camera panorama stitch software, which I used here. Moreover, one can use artistic on camera software effects. Here I used "expressive" effect, which enhances the colours.
The idea is to emphasize "organic nature" of the literature and science. Therefore I turned the camera also horizontally, while moving the camera during the exposures taken for the vertical panorama image. And rich colours because the literature and science are colourful! Especially scientific literature is like a slow motion growth of human communication and knowledge. Unfortunately that scientific growth can turn out to be even too slow, and we fail to do the critical change: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Limits_to_Growth
Tower hotel 35/50: Panorama

Here it finally comes: An overall view of the tower hotel I've been shooting during this year. I have tried several stitched panoramas with several cameras, and somewhat gave up. Then the "help" came from very surprising direction. I've been using Google Images service as a backup storage for my Android mobile phone camera shots, and they do give also automatic image enhancing services. Every now and then I get notices about them on my email, and usually I just ignore those messages. But this time Google did rather nice job with a series of vertical images I had taken with my phone camera. Not perfect, but surprisingly good. buildings are a little crooked, stitches are not perfect and the top of the tower is arched instead of being straight as in reality. But the main purpose becomes well fulfilled: The picture shows how the old roundhouses and office building are combined with the tower standing behind them. The conference rooms, restaurant and reception are in the old buildings, and hotel rooms and top floor bar in the high tower.
