"The rain's almost stopped for five minutes. We should wash the car."
In Höfn.
Day 11

Like bees, they swarmed off their tour bus, spent five minutes buzzing about taking selfies, and then disappeared.
Witnessed this at several of the southwest-corner must-see tourist sites, and it always made me chuckle.

Spent the day hiking something like 24 miles, get back to campsite exhausted, manage to get a shower and get to bed by 9pm.
Only to be awakened at 12:30am by a couple of guys who decided to put up their tent right next to mine (the field was mostly empty), didn't know how to set it up, and couldn't figure out how to drive stakes into the inch-of-soil-over-packed-gravel ground.
So for about twenty minutes I suffered listening to them hammer on stakes with a rock. Then I got up and offered to help, which they refused, so I went back to sleep (somehow).
In the morning, I found this. (My tent is on the left.) It looked better than it did at midnight, at least.

The French family.
Just as I got set up, they blew past the "don't go off-trail' signs with an indifferent glance and proceded to walk out to the base of the falls and monopolize the place for twenty minutes - chit-chatting, washing their feet in the water, wading across to get pictures from right below. All while 40-50 others on the observation deck and the trail were held up waiting for them to finish. Completely indifferent to all the other people growing increasingly frustrated with their selfish behavior.
Finally, a mid-60s Icelandic woman standing next to me screamed at them to "get the hell out of the way". They looked back at her, feigning incomprehension. Others joined in, waving arms and yelling. Indignantly, they slooowly gathered up their things and sauntered back the way they'd come, not deigning (or perhaps not daring) to look anyone in they eye as they left.

"...the wreck is located on the remote and isolated Solheimasandur beach, a difficult one-hour walk from the closest parking area on the Ring Road..."

"Don't mind me. I have a drone: that authorizes me to monopolize your tourist spot for twenty minutes while I capture attention-whoring video for my Instathot channel."
(Of course I'm exaggerating. If it was really for an Instathot channel, she'd have taken her clothes off.)

The wrecked US Navy DC-3 on the Sólheimasandur beach.
Yes, the isolated wreck on the remote beach that's difficult to find and to get to.

The wrecked US Navy DC-3 on the Sólheimasandur beach.
There were a few more visitors than I expected.

I have no idea what was going on here, but it was hilarious to watch.
(At the Kaldakvisl bridge.)

Park car on isolated scenic turnout. Spend two minutes setting up camcorder for time lapse. Turn around and find this.
Stealthy. I honestly had no idea that all these people had arrived until I turned around. It actually startled me.
Note another of the converted fire engine RVs in the background.
