Can you tell where the main support beam is?

For some reason, the squirrels have taken to thrashing the big pine tree hanging over the deck. I cleaned it off, and a day or two later it looks like this again.

I'm not sure how boards of the same nominal size can vary in width by 3/4", and then warp out of straight after being installed and tied down to other structure. The top of the end joist is level, so all those other joists really do warp up and down like that.
