Huron Peak from the trail, just above treeline. We made it to the base of the peak, behind the trees at left, before the weather started to turn.

This thing was about the size of a softball, and looked just like the unreal mushrooms you see in cartoons or the kitschy wallpaper in old ladies' kitchens. Who knew such things really existed?

This black cloud suddenly appeared to the south, prompting a hasty retreat back to the jeep...from about 200 vertical feet below the summit. And we left none too soon, as we were chased down the lower meadow by lightning and thunder, making it back to the jeep at an all-out run just before a noachian rain opened up. You don't mess with storms in the mountains.

Columbines in the upper meadow. I think these were the first columbines I'd ever actually seen...for being the state flower, they sure are scarce down on the plains.

The unimpressively round summit of Cameron (left) and the more interesting Lincoln (right), as seen from Mt. Bross.

The trail over to Lincoln was a little bit exposed. Just a guess, but that has to be at least 2000 feet down.

We would later have to slide down the scree slope to the right, when coming down from Bross (the hump at top-center). By far the worst, most exhausting part of the whole hike. It's not a bad view, but it's probably more enjoyable to hike back along the ridge to the main trail at the Democrat/Cameron saddle.
