LMS 3P 4-4-0 40747 with Midland Railway clerestory…

There are so many distinctive features in the background that I am sure someone can identify the location. I am not quite sure why I hadn't connected this negative scan with the print version, already uploaded - www.flickr.com/photos/phil-seaford/5356817345/in/photostr... but I have now! We know from that that this is 40747 at Leeds City station in 1950. I have put this on the map where the current main Leeds station is shown, but I don't know whether this was ever called 'City', which is what Dad's caption refers to.

S&DJR 2-8-0 83 approaching Cricklewood in 1919

Scan from J.E.Kite's 1850 - 1925 Vintage Album (1966). This is credited to W.Beckerlegge. Whether he took it is another matter. Most of his LNER photos were ones he collected. Given the number of photos in the SDJRT archives of no.85, on similar journeys on the Midland Railway, about this time, I wonder if the number has been misread. Certainly the quality of the reproduction in the book leaves it open to debate, but there maybe more definitive data backing up the book caption. The Railway Modeller (Feb.1967) drawing of a SDJR 2-8-0, no. 80, as built, includes in its notes by Bill Ibbott, that only 85 went on trials, hauling coal from Totton to Cricklewood. This is clearly not a coal train, but that is a minor issue.
