The date is not recorded. This photo & 40489's follow one taken on 13.6.1959. and precede one taken at Mangotsfield on 29.7.1959. It is unlikely HJS would have made a second trip to Gloucester so soon, so it is likely that these two photos were also taken on 13.6.1959.

Although there is already a version of this photo in my photostream, scanned from a print, Dad had cropped it down to just include the loco.. So I thought it was worth including this, with a better sense of its surroundings. www.flickr.com/photos/phil-seaford/5354770433/

There are so many distinctive features in the background that I am sure someone can identify the location. I am not quite sure why I hadn't connected this negative scan with the print version, already uploaded - www.flickr.com/photos/phil-seaford/5356817345/in/photostr... but I have now! We know from that that this is 40747 at Leeds City station in 1950. I have put this on the map where the current main Leeds station is shown, but I don't know whether this was ever called 'City', which is what Dad's caption refers to.

Can someone throw light on this group of carriages? Although the LNWR & LNER liveries look good, there are modern features above and below the solebars. I am not sure of the date. I was visiting Olympia for a South London Warlords' annual 'Salute' wargaming event and I stopped going by 2000
