The nearest I have got to this loco in Dad's spotting logs is 62362 on Darlington running shed on Saturday 18th June 1949. The numbers are a possible match - the last but one number is the least distinct, so I could well have been wrong initially.

I believe that this is a group of boys and a young man, who may be a student teacher, from Ripon Grammar School. Dad taught there as well as working at the Cathedral. I seem to remember him saying that he had taken some of the boys on the odd train spotting trip. I don't think I have uploaded this one before.
This lot will all be in their 70s by now. Anyone recognise themselves?

I expect that the location is recogniseable to LNER fans. Once that is sorted it could be dated from the change from semaphore signals to multi-aspect light signals at that station.

Good positioning given Dad's fairly basic camera. No autofocus and motorised shutter for him!

The loco number might end 20 but it is very fuzzy. I am reasonably confident in the headboard. Once one knows such a named train existed, it firms up one's own interpretation of the shapes!
9.12.2012 Thanks to 1964STU - this now has been identified as A1, 60120 Kittywake.
Well what do you expect of someone who only spent a couple of years in the north, aged about 5!
20/9/2013 Prompted by Polyrus, I checked Dad's spotting logs, which I now have, and found an entry on 29/7/1950 at York. As there was an example of this uncommon track formation north of York station, this seems a likely location.

From this point on the negatives are jumbled together in a 'Glaced fruits' box - so no dates even! That wasn't meant to be a pun. We lived at Ripon from 1949 to 51 so it's most likely to have been in that period for this one.

From a group of loose prints, many of which seem to be by Michael Brown of Harrogate. This one doesn't have a named photographer.
Maybe it's the quality of the photo. but this gives a far less glamorous image of an A4 than they are usually presented in.
The location has been identified by Steve Banks as Copley Hill, the ex-GNR shed that served Leeds Central. Please see his comment below.

This is a nice one. Imagine that lot at the end of a platform these days! Scary PA announcements, dayglo jackets, PCSO (Transport), risk assessments - all things in the future then!
This is an unusual scene. A summer Saturday working - the 12.15pm from Weston-super-Mare to Sheffield, hauled by an ex-LNER B1, arriving at Bristol. It was taken by Dad on 8.8.1964.
The Taunton MRC Bath Green Park layout was featured in the January 2012 Railway Modeller and among the photos was another LNER B1 61143 recalling a similar duty on 12.9.1964.
