The loco number might end 20 but it is very fuzzy. I am reasonably confident in the headboard. Once one knows such a named train existed, it firms up one's own interpretation of the shapes!

9.12.2012 Thanks to 1964STU - this now has been identified as A1, 60120 Kittywake.
Well what do you expect of someone who only spent a couple of years in the north, aged about 5!

20/9/2013 Prompted by Polyrus, I checked Dad's spotting logs, which I now have, and found an entry on 29/7/1950 at York. As there was an example of this uncommon track formation north of York station, this seems a likely location.

An interesting sight Phil and a fair old trek from Somerset during steam days.
In time someone might be able to help with identifying the location - which may not be too difficult, as the signal box is unusual and is located adjacent to a cross-over junction.

Looking in Dad's loco spotting logs, which I have recently transferred from my parents house, I have found a sighting, underlined in red, which I think means he took a photo., at York, on 29.7.1950. In Jowett's railway atlas, there is a flat crossing north of York station. There is also a chord as can be seen at the bottom.

Very interesting Phil. I was concentrating on the blurred name of the signal box which to me looks like West ** *******d. Somewhere there will be a huge list of GNR boxes, but finding it is another matter ;-)

I have just run another photo, probably taken at almost the same time, to earth -https://www.test.ipernity.com/doc/364457/26520771 - so we now have Waterworks Box!
Please don't get me on too many of these research trips - I have several IT projects I should be working on and this sort of trip into the archives is just too tempting!

Brilliant! Mayhaps if you add the location prior to posting, annoying people like me might not put their spoke in ;-)

I wish I had one IT project to work on, but I've given up on finding one and decided to retire. I don't know why I couldn't land myself one as everybody that knows me says that I'm hard work!

This one was from a negative, with no info on the packet. The only way I acquired the initial loco information was from another Flickrite. I only acquired my Dad's log books in the last few months after Mum had a sort out. I have captioned the images on a lot of the railway photos, so that one can see it during a slide show.
My IT projects are only on a voluntary basis, having retired five years ago.
Anyway enjoy finding other little teasers. Mind you there seem to be a lot less railway fans over here, so help might be harder to come by. But Dad's log books somewhat offset that.
