This sign was outside a bakers on the hill up from Lewes station. I make no guarantees about the efficacy of this method of keeping out of kidnappers' hands, but it sounds like a reasonable excuse for a bit of bakery product!

We hardly ever see police motorcyclists in our area. Perhaps they are all undercover cops, that we don't recognize. There are plenty of bikers so they could be mingling among them undetected!

This photo was genuinely taken by mistake. My camera has been playing up and just shutting down unexpectedly. I was turning it off and on - always the first thing you do with 'technology' - and it came back on suddenly. The camera was pointing down as it 'fired', or what ever they call exposing a plate now, and there happened to be a temporary road sign lying face down beside the road. I started to look at it as a 'Geometric abstract' but it was a bit fuzzy and everything seems very sharp and clean in that group. so into Photoshop it went and came out like this! The small versions of the obverse and the ESCC have been added to give the shape a bit more interest. ESCC would have stood for East Sussex County Council, if they had not contracted out road works. You can make up your own branding. Would the Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy have had info on road signs??! Perhaps it's not the camera that's faulty. Perhaps I am quietly dementing. (spell-check doesn't think that is a word - who is mad now?)

What is interesting about this sign, is that it is in a Victorian or Edwardian style, yet painted in the late 1990s.

I find it a bit sad that historic artefacts like this get separated from their original locality. The message is a bit imprecise to our eyes, but when one didn't have loads or vehicles with specified weights, I suppose that this was saying "This is OK for general use, but if you have a big load or heavy vehicle consider whether the bridge can carry it." This type of quirky sign is often copied. so this could be a repro.
