Shells - remnants of dinner ..

26 Sep 2010 125
Apple snails, prolific in lake waters, are eaten by Limpkins, raccoons, alligators and some ducks .. Egg masses are laid from March to October .. Egg masses are laid on tree trunks- sea walls- pilings & plant stems .. If bright pink, they are Channeled or Island Apple snail eggs -- they are a nuisance as the mature snails eat rooted aquatic vegetation.. The bright pink eggs can be scraped off, falling into the water - they will not hatch .. On the other hand, if the egg masses are white, they are Florida Apple snails which each algae, microbes and decaying vegetation .. -- taken from the University of Florida Dept of Entomology website © All rights reserved
