Christmas trees are grown almost everywhere you look .. Ashe County is well known for beautiful trees .. They have supplied many to the White House for the Christmas season .. look in each part of this collage .. they are grown everyplace there is a spot to put one, it seems .. some in the bottom left aren't doing too well, but the rest are flourishing .. go ahead, pick one out ! It began when the Kraft Corporation helped communities consolidate several small plants into one larger one where cheddar daisy wheels could be produced for the entire country. Kraft operated the plant for many years and sold it in 1975. After that, the factory itself and company have changed hands several times until 2004 when the plant and store companies were split into two separate companies. The cheese-making factory plant and the store across the street have all undergone numerous renovations and upgrades over the decades. The Ashe County Cheese Factory posts Cheese Making Schedule times for daily viewing times when you and your group can stop in and see cheese being made. The plant viewing room allows you to see the day to day operation and how cheese is made and shipped.
