Students from Keble College, Oxford University could live at Oxford House while undertaking volunteer work in the area. The students ran youth groups, provided legal assistance, and conducted adult education classes in the building and surrounding area. Weavers Fields park was laid out the 1950s after the Tower Hamlets razed the decaying housing, mostly weavers' cottages, located on the streets here. In the summer, when it's been particularly dry and the grass is brown, the outlines of the streets and foundations appear as ghosts of the past.
