Offshore wind

Again, not a photo I'm pleased with, but a 24mm prime lens was a little restrictive at this distance. Still, the actual wind farms in the Mersey Estuary are a curio. I enjoyed seeing this one with white turbines against a blue sky whilst those of the one behind me, no longer in direct sunlight, looked mid-grey against the same sky. No way to get them all in the same shot at more than pixel-size though!

Submarine drydock crane

From Birkenhead Priory's yard. The expansion of the docks cost the parish most of the housing which the church here served, and later cost the church its graveyard, and then its purpose, since the community had been moved along! The ancient (11th Century or so) priory at the site is, however, now a museum, and its chapel is in use again.

Shake hooves

Apparently these horses were one of the most important and lavish grave goods items in 7th Century China. I was absolutely stunned to discover that it's possible to own something this old. This one is in a gallery, and of course galleries and musea have such things. But I recently found one in a coin-collectors' shop in London. Not quite so pretty (standing on all four legs) but in unmistakably the same style, and for £950. That's a lot of money, but for something that's over 1,000 years old..! I don't know how much this one with the raised foreleg would cost, but I WANT ONE!
