A visit to Cowdray ruins. World Photography Day 2…

A bit of a disappointment to be honest. My wife and I always try to get out and about together, but we're unable to get too far off road nowadays which is why we decided on this location. The car park is close by to where we're standing. We arrived to find the the ruins were completely fenced off. In addition the Walled Garden and Tea Rooms had been closed down. However, I still managed to get a few photos and it was good to get out in the fresh air. We ended up going out for lunch nearby and still had a decent day out and at least the rain held off :-)) A bit of history: Cowdray House consists of the ruins of one of England's great Tudor houses, architecturally comparable to many of the great palaces and country houses of that time. It is situated in the Parish of Easebourne, just east of Midhurst, West Sussex standing on the north bank of the River Rother. It was largely destroyed by fire on 24 September 1793, but the ruins have nevertheless been Grade I listed.

Cowdray House (or Cowdray Ruins as it is now known) stands in the grounds of the Cowdray Estate, Midhurst, West Sussex and is the remains of one of England's most important Tudor houses. In 1793 it caught fire which destroyed most of the property. Except for work to make it safe it remained that way until March 2007 when it opened to the public after works funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage, the Cowdray Estate and the local community.
