This is the commonest and most well known of the Orb Web spiders..........and I found it, funnily enough, in my garden. I would have liked to have got an overhead shot, but it refused to cooperate. The background is a rather grubby panel on the wall underneath one of our back windows,. Best viewed large if you can bear it..!! I normally have dozens of these in my garden at this time of year, but this is one of only 3 or 4 I've seen so far :-(

Even Garden Spiders can be romantic (^_-) My garden is festooned with these spiders and their webs at the moment.........this is the first one I've found with a heart-shaped web..!!

Newly emerged Garden Spider Spiderlings. These are miniature versions of the adult except they are not yet sexually mature. Each one is only around 2-3mm long.These will have moulted once in the egg sac and typically will moult once again before they gradually disperse and go their separate ways. My wife found these in our garden this morning at the base of a daffodil flower. Please view large, on black (or check them out at full size).
