These are situated on the sea front at Southsea, Hampshire. They date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and have been Grade II listed for their artistic, architectural and historical interest.
They have recently been restored. See the link for more details if you are interested:

I have a couple more photos, which I'll post in due course.

Samudra, the Sea Serpent

Samudra the plastic-eating sea serpent is easily spotted on the seafront at Exmouth, Devon, and is feeling hungry!
Samudra particularly enjoys empty plastic bottles and single-use cups.
Her last few meals had recently been taken away by the council (which is why she is hungry again)!
Better viewed large I think. Thank you.
A similar means of recycling can be seen around Portsmouth: www.ipernity.com/doc/keithburton/49238884
Sea Defences

Some of the many thousands of huge rocks that have been brought in to make up part of the new sea defences being built along the Southsea waterfront, which are sorely needed. They're weathering nicely and it hasn't taken long for the seaweed to colonise them. Most of the rocks have been shipped in from Norway.
In the distance you can see Horse Sand Fort which is one of a series along this stretch of coast built to protect against an invasion by the French. Building work began in 1865 but by the time they had all been completed in 1880, the invasion threat had passed. During World War Two, they formed part of Portsmouth's coastal artillery defences.
Nowadays the forts are privately owned and some have been turned into luxury hotels and tourist resorts.
Some of the finished sea defences (including the new sea wall) can be seen in the PiP if you're interested. Work is still ongoing at the moment.

A candid shot, taken on the beach at Southsea. These young ladies looked like they were having great fun dancing and filming.
Langstone Harbour Houses

Langstone Village is a lovely little place and there are several houses which sit right on the waterfront. These are a few of them. I've walked along the sea wall here frequently since I was a child and I've always thought that this would be a lovely place to live. I'd need to win a substantial amount on the lottery though if I wanted to :-)))
Street Lamp

Taken on Southsea sea front. An overcast day with lovely diffused light. I really liked the look of the lamp against the sea and sky and decided to wait and include the passing ship in the shot.
See if you can spot the two birds........
EDIT: The eagle eyes of Frank (bonsai59) have spotted a third bird! See the notes he's added.

Taken at the end of January when the average sea temperature was between 4.8C and 7.2C, this man had just finished a swim and was drying off in the shelter! I was wearing several layers of clothing plus a hat and gloves. It was very cold and the wind was icy.
I know cold water swimming is supposed to be good for you.......but no thanks :-))
Happy Bench Monday everyone. Thank you to all of you who have visited my photo-stream over the past week especially if you've left a comment and\or a yellow star. Much appreciated.
I hope you all have a good week!

One of the Victorian shelters on Southsea sea front in Hampshire. Looking slightly the worse for wear, but still performing a useful function.

A really beautiful, sandy beach and just a few minutes walk from my daughter's house.

I don't often go to Bognor Regis - in fact I actively try not to - but today I was talked into it. After having spent half an hour or so in the local camera shop and decided I didn't really need another camera bag, I left the Boss "doing" the shops and had a wander along the sea front. Not much happening to be honest, but I thought I'd share these photos. No need to look at them all unless you really want to - I know 17 is a lot to post all at once - but I thought I'd get it over with!

..............on a warm, but grey day! Hence the mono conversion. I used an old lens I bought secondhand a couple of years ago, but have hardly used: a Nikkor 28-105mm, f3.5-4.5 D. A capable lens with a useful macro facility. Sits well on the D300 for a light (ish) daily carry.
