In Memoriam

03 Mar 2021 22 15 164
Two posts from me today.........the following one features two more daffodils. I found these cut daffodils arranged on the top of a bench in the Southsea Rose Garden in Hampshire. The bench was dedicated to a recently deceased couple and I assume these flowers had been left that morning as they were still fresh. Go large if you want!

Memorial Stone

I probably walk past the War Memorial in my home town 4 or 5 times a week. Last Saturday I noticed that someone had painted a stone and left in on the steps of the memorial. It looks like it's been there some time so I thought it deserved to have it's photo taken :-)

Shadow and Light

20 Oct 2019 20 16 243
I took this poignant image in my local cemetery yesterday afternoon. The light was quite harsh and I considered lightening up the shadows but eventually decided to leave them quite dark. Although I'm not religious I quite like visiting cemeteries - they are usually very peaceful places. Our one is quite old and part of it is now managed as a wildflower meadow. I got quite a few images I was happy with including some Fungi, one of which I've posted along with this one.

Looking out over the Solent, this is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view. Also in shot is the D-Day memorial anchor and plinth. The pathway leads down to the beach.

Folly

This charming folly is situated on the edge of Benbow Pond, on the Cowdray Estate, near Midhurst, West Sussex. It was built as a memorial to the Third Viscount of Cowdray who died in 2000.

Nelson's Column............ no not THAT one!! This one (which stands on Portsdown Hill, Portsmouth), was built in 1807-08, funded by donations of 2 days pay from all those who served at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and from naval prize-money. I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend. I have family coming to stay, so I may not be around much).

Neglected.
