An old nearly ATX power supply set up for use as a bench supply. This needed a load on the +5V rail for the supply to operate. Instead of a resistor I used a 12V 10W auto lamp which doubles as pilot lamp. I have yet to fit a DC switch, the green switch wire is earthed till then. See note on www.ipernity.com/doc/grahamh/23993553/in/album/463841 .

An old nearly ATX power supply set up for use as a bench supply. This needed a load on the +5V rail for the supply to operate. Instead of a resistor I used a 12V 10W (5W was too little load and 21W was unnecessarily large) auto lamp which doubles as pilot lamp. I have yet to fit a DC switch, the green switch wire is earthed till then.

My only radio @ 8/2013. I bought this in 1985 when I was first licenced, it was the latest and greatest. Seen here are the main controls. The PTT, frequency offset, TX power switch and 1.75KHz tone switch are on the side. The frequency shown is 146.675MHz.

My only radio @ 8/2013. Seen here in its portable setup. It uses 6 NiMh AA rechargeable cells and has a VHF Hiband rubber ducky antenna. The similar original antenna was sold to an operator in dire need more than 20 years ago.

My only radio @ 8/2013, a Belcom LS-202E. I bought this in 1985 when I was first licenced, it was the latest and greatest then. Seen here in its usual home setup. It's running on 11.5VDC from a PC power supply and connected to a rooftop mounted home made ground plane antenna. The battery tray is partly visible behind the power plug.
See www.ipernity.com/doc/grahamh/24028051/in/album/464585 for more info on PS.
2M antenna 0113

The TV antenna was removed. Faults in its feeder matching were repaired and the antenna placed in the roof space. Above the roof is now fully available for non-bludging antennas.
This 2m antenna is constructed from a dexion bracket recovered from a telecoms site ~30 yrs ago, a mobile base even older. The vertical is the screw-on part of an analogue mobile whip and the whip is zinc -plated steel wire found while out walking. The ground plane is galvanised wire from a coathanger. The feeder is an RG59 equivalent from a disposal source.

The fibreglass whip plus spring has been replaced by a measured length of scrap zinc plated steel wire and a ferrule from an old analogue mobile whip.

My 2M antenna at home as first installed.
This 2m antenna is constructed from a dexion bracket recovered from a telecoms site ~30 yrs ago, a mobile base even older and a mirror mount clamp. The vertical is the spring and whip I use on vehicles. The ground plane is galvanised wire from a coathanger. The feeder is an RG59 equivalent from a disposal source.
In 2013 the fibreglass whip was replaced with suitable length of galvansed wire in a ferrule from an old mobile phone antenna. It was a nuisance having to climb up there when I wanted to work from a car.
