Shunting in Darling Harbour in 1970 was largely done by steam locos. This class was originally introduced as tank locos for suburban train working. See adjacent photo for original appearance. After Sydney electrification in the 1920s around half were converted to tender types as shown here. In this form they were used extensively for branch line working. Sometime in 1970. This area has been redeveloped into an entertainment precinct. A light rail system has utilised some of the former goods line route.

After electrification in Sydney the ones which remained as shown here were used in outer suburban work and upgraded the Newcastle and Wollongong suburban service, and various shunting and short distance country work. Sometime in 1970. This area has been redeveloped into an entertainment precinct. A light rail system has utilised some of the former goods line route.
