My mother worked alongside my father on their market gardening farm. Despite her small stature she too had been working since childhood, and now with their own farm she had even more reason for being a hard-working young woman. My father was a market gardener and bought his farm in 1938. For the first many years all transport relied on the horses and on rare occasions in winter the horse-drawn sleigh was in use. I never saw it in action, but the sleigh is now part of the collection on the local museum. I believe this picture to be taken by my mother, probably January 1940.
