My father with Alice (1967)

04 Sep 2016 131
My father died in 1985, but today August 4th 2016 marks his 105th birthday. My parents had a market gardening farm and they both loved cats. Contrary to many other farms at that time, our cats were always well fed and also allowed into the house. This is my father with Alice, a very sweet tabby cat.♥ :) (3 more in the comments) Frode Hansen, Kildebrønde - probably photographed by my mother Lily Hansen, 1967.

Many years ago - 1959

26 Dec 2015 144
A typical Danish Christmas Eve in my childhood home. Father has lit the candles, the doors have been opened and the family let in for the traditional dancing and singing around the Christmas tree. Left to right: Myself disguised as "Yule man", sister Lene, neighbour and occasional nanny Marie, uncle Richard, eldest brother Elon and our father Frode. The picture was shot by brother Leon - and our mother Lily had probably found an excuse for not being on the photo... ;) Home of Lily & Frode Hansen, Kildebrønde, Denmark, 24.12.1959. Analogue photo by Leon Frode Hansen. Scanned and edited by Finn Frode Hansen.

My parents - 75 years anniversary.

04 Mar 2014 87
On March 4th 1939 my parents got married in the local parish church. They have been gone for many years now, but I carry them forever in my heart. Lily & Frode Hansen, Kildebrønde. 04.03.1939. (1915-1988 and 1911-1985) Scanned from the wedding photo,.

My mother harvesting melons (1940)

17 Mar 2014 93
My mother worked alongside my father on their market gardening farm. Despite her small stature she too had been working since childhood, and now with their own farm she had even more reason for being a hard-working young woman. Lily Hansen, Kildebrønde - probably photographed by my father Frode Hansen, summer of 1940.

My father's Massey Ferguson tractor (1966)

11 Jan 2014 101
This is me driving my father's Massey Ferguson 135 back in 1966. My father was a market gardener, and the actual operation was ploughing up tulip bulbs, which was harvested for flowering in greenhouse during winter. The tractor was brand new and a powerfull little machine compared to the Farmall, we had before. The MF135 served us well for many years, Probably shot July 1966 by my father, Frode Hansen.

Same Massey Ferguson revisited 47 years later (201…

This summer I drove by my father's farm and the Massey Ferguson 135 was still there in relatively good shape. I was very happy to see it, but except for that revisiting was a sad sight - my father sold the farm some 35 years ago and now the buildings and greenhouses are derelict and there are weeds everywhere. At least he did not live to see that... 28.08.2013.

My father and his brand new Austin (1953)

17 Jan 2014 108
My father bought his first car in 1953, an Austin A40 Van. He put on his best clothers and posed beside it for this photo to be taken by my mother. But into the picture sneaked my elder sister, right from the fields and definitely not dressed for the occasion... Scanned from photo by Lily Hansen, 1953.

My father driving a horse-drawn sleigh (1940)

26 Jan 2014 103
My father was a market gardener and bought his farm in 1938. For the first many years all transport relied on the horses and on rare occasions in winter the horse-drawn sleigh was in use. I never saw it in action, but the sleigh is now part of the collection on the local museum. I believe this picture to be taken by my mother, probably January 1940.

Our horses Per & Mikkel, ca.1956

08 Nov 2013 88
My father was a market gardener and these were his work horses Per & Mikkel, presented by Egon, who worked for us. To the right my elder sister and me. :) The horses were so-called Lithuanians, but I'm not sure whether it's an actual breed or just something my father made up. They were good horses, but could be obstinate with Egon, who wasn't the brightest fellow. Often they would stop in the furthest corner of the field and not move until my father yelled at them - and his yell could be heard half a mile away... :) Anyway, 3 years later the horses were gone and had been replaced by a Farmall tractor ...

My elder brother feeding the cat, 1943.

20 Sep 2013 82
My elder brother Elon Hansen feeding a tabby cat. Our parents were "cat people", so contrary to many other farms at that time, our cats were always fed and allowed into the house. Photographed by our father outside the home in Kildebrønde, Denmark, probably late 1943. Videos at www.youtube.com/user/FinnFrodeHansen . Home page: www.raarup.eu Scanned from analog picture

My father with two cats on his wheelbarrow, 1942.

20 Sep 2013 78
My father was a market gardener and this foto was probably staged to display a great harvest of melons. He loved cats, so of course they should be in the picture too. :) Frode Hansen, Kildebrønde - probably photographed by my mother Lily Hansen, summer of 1942.
