My father bought his first car in 1953, an Austin A40 Van. He put on his best clothers and posed beside it for this photo to be taken by my mother. But into the picture sneaked my elder sister, right from the fields and definitely not dressed for the occasion... Scanned from photo by Lily Hansen, 1953.

My father was a market gardener and bought his farm in 1938. For the first many years all transport relied on the horses and on rare occasions in winter the horse-drawn sleigh was in use. I never saw it in action, but the sleigh is now part of the collection on the local museum. I believe this picture to be taken by my mother, probably January 1940.
