ships that pass in the night

07 Oct 2013 3 1 832
Cut-paper collage postcard created for Kollage Kit theme: "It was a dark and stormy night." Background from an engraving by Gustave Doré. Ghostly figures from a video installation by Gary Hill. Border is chopped-up bits from paintings by Francis Bacon, Willem de Kooning, Emil Nolde, and Pedro F. Perez. The title is from Longfellow: "...ships that pass in the night and speak to each other in passing ... Only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence."

feeling: creeped out

Done on ipad2: Background is a painting made in Zen Brush. Eye is from an Edo period Japanese anatomical diagram--excised, rotated & duplicated in Procreate. What can I say? I'm in a dark mood.

Coatlicue ATC

Coatlicue ("serpent skirt") is a complex Aztec dark earth/moon/death goddess. It is written of the statue I drew the ATC from: "Here she is pictured as a cosmic process rather than as a female deity, that is, as the force that offers life but is maintained by death in a struggle of the opposites that is inevitable, even necessary." I made this for the Nightmare & Fairy Tales swap-bot group--the swap for letter "C" creatures of mythology.
