10-week project - textures - week six: sharp Random pufferfish hanging from a light fixture at the Magoffin House in El Paso, TX. These were apparently meant as conversation starters; the idea being that if you were having a party and there was a lull in the conversation someone could jump in with an "I say, is that a pufferfish hanging from the light?" and get the conversation going again before things got awkward. I feel like they may have been trying to solve the wrong problem...

10-week project - textures - week four: rough It's monsoon season, which apparently means every afternoon it rains for like ten minutes; the rest of the day, the mud bakes in the sun. :)

10-week project - textures - week one: soft Ripples on the surface of the dunes, at White Sands national monument. This was at the edge of one of the more popular spots for climbing up and then sledding down the dunes. Throughout the day the dunes sprout trails of foot- (and paw-) prints and smooth shiny sled-tracks (the giant-plastic-frisbee kinds); but the wind ultimately clears it all away. The fastest-moving dunes, near the center of the dune-field, move around 35ft (~10.67m) per year.

TSC: textures I started with the Coral Catshark swimming in the shark- and ray-petting tank (yes, I still have all my fingers ;) ) and the outside wall of the aquarium (I got there twenty minutes before the event started, and used the time to collect potential textures for the challenge ;) ). The koi are a bit of street art I found in New Orleans when I drove through last month on my way to Houston; I finished it off with a night shot of flowering trees reflecting on the pond in the Public Garden back in the spring. (original images are in the notes) [ETA: the koi were done by Jeremy Novy, and they can be found all over New Orleans :) ]
