These were apparently meant as conversation starters; the idea being that if you were having a party and there was a lull in the conversation someone could jump in with an "I say, is that a pufferfish hanging from the light?" and get the conversation going again before things got awkward.

I feel like they may have been trying to solve the wrong problem...
