Diesen herrlich gefärbten Tagfalter fand ich gestern mitten im Wald sich in den warmen Oktober-Sonnenstrahlen wärmend. Es war ein vor kurzem geschlüpfter Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) . Die Oberseite dieses Tagfalters ist ja allgemein bekannt (siehe www.ipernity.com/doc/cammino/46981034) . Die Unterseite, die seltener gezeigt wird, ist ganz auffällig gefärbt (viele Farbtöne und Strukturen) und ist sicherlich eine gute Tarnfarbe. Eigentlich sind die Admirale Wanderfalter, die im Herbst wieder in den Süden fliegen, um dort zu überwintern. Seit einiger Zeit bleiben aber die Falter in Mitteleuropa und überwintern als Falter bei uns. Es ist also eine eigenständige mitteleuropäische Population entstanden. I found this beautifully colored butterfly in the middle of the forest yesterday, basking in the warm October sunbeams. It was a recently hatched red admiral (Vanessa atalanta) . The upper side of this butterfly is well known (see www.ipernity.com/doc/cammino/46981034) . The underside, which is shown less frequently, is quite strikingly colored (many hues and textures) and is certainly a good camouflage color. Actually, the admirals are migratory butterflies that fly back south in autumn to spend the winter there. For some time, however, the butterflies stay in Central Europe and overwinter as butterfly. An independent Central European population has thus developed.
