Zur Zeit fliegen auf Wiesen Schmetterlinge der Art Silbergrüner Bläuling (Polyommatus coridon) . Im Bild ein Paar bei der Kopulation. Die Geschlechter weisen einen ganz auffälligen Geschlechtsdimorphismus auf, d.h. sie unterscheiden sich stark im Aussehen. Links das größere Männchen mit heller Unterseite und graublauer Oberseite (PiP links). Rechts das kleiner Weibchen mit dunkelbrauner Grundfarbe auf der Unterseite und brauner Oberseite (PIP rechts). Das Pärchen sitzt auf einer Skabiose. Heute fand ich bei einer Wanderung in einem fränkischen Naturschutzgebiet diese beiden kopulierenden Schachbrettfalter (Melanargia galathea) . Das Weibchen ist der linke Schmetterling, bei dem die Flügelunterseite deutlich gelb ist, das Männchen ist das rechte Tier mit fast reinweißer Flügelunterseite. In diesem Jahr sind die Schachbrettfalter in meiner Region auffällig häufig, und das freut mich sehr. Sie ließen sich von mir nicht weiter stören, auch der Wind, der das Blatt leicht bewegte, war ihnen egal. Diese Marienkäferart stammt aus China, Japan u.a. und wurde, da Käfer und Larven eifrige Blattlausvertilger sind, auch in Europa in der Biologischen Schädlingsbekämpfung eingesetzt.
