Diese seltsame Raupe mit ganz spitzen Dornen am ganzen Körper und bunter Farbe (ca. 3 cm groß) fand ich auf einer Brennnessel sitzend an einem Waldweg. Eine solche Raupe hatte ich noch nie gesehen. Ich konnte sie als die Raupe vom C-Falter (Nymphalis c-album) bestimmen. Merkmale: viele spitze Stacheln und bei älteren Raupen die weiße Farbe der Oberseite des hinteren Körperdrittels. Diese Weißfärbung ist im PiP besonders gut zu sehen. I had never seen a caterpillar like that before. I was able to identify it as the caterpillar of the comma (Nymphalis c-album) . Characteristics: many sharp spines and, in older caterpillars, the white color of the upper side of the rear third of the body. This white coloring can be seen particularly well in the PiP. Diese etwa 5 cm große Raupe fand ich auf einem Blatt der Gewöhnliche Hundszunge (Cynoglossum officinale) fressend. Es handelt sich um die Raupe des Schmetterlings Brauner Bär (Arctia caja) , die seitlich weiße Flecken aufweist und deren Oberfläche mit ziemlich langen Chitin-Haaren überzogen ist, die im vorderen Bereich braunrot sind. Der Kopfbereich (siehe Notiz) ist nicht sichtbar, weil kurze braunrote Borsten wie ein Dach darüber ragen. Nach der Verpuppung schlüpfen im Juli auffällig gefärbte Nachtfalter S. Wikipedia-Artikel). Der Braune Bär ist in Deutschland geschützt und zählt zu den gefährdeten Tierarten. The head area (see note) is not visible because short brown-red bristles protrude over it like a roof. After pupation, strikingly coloured moths hatch in July (see Wikipedia article). The brown bear is an endangered species and therfore protected in Germany. I am not aware of any toxic effect of the chitin hairs.

Wahrscheinlich handelt es sich bei diesem kleinen Tierchen um die Raupe des Eichenwicklers (Tortrix viridana) , einem gefürchteten Waldschädling, der als Raupe Blätter von Laubbäumen, bevorzugt von Eichen, abfressen kann und damit die Bäume schwer schädigt.
