Near to the Furkapass east ramp and hotel Belvedere is the mighty and beautiful Rhone glacier. I inserted a PiP with the newest Google Street Map view. The retreat is horrible. The red line, which I have drawn, marks the glacier in 1997. The east ramp of Furkapass leads down in the valley of river "Rotten" (which means Rhone) and to the village "Gletsch". The opposite slope shows the Grimselpass road, which we will take next. pass no. 25 - Furkapass (2436 m), Switzerland - day 5

The famous Hotel Belvedere (1882) is situated inside a serpentine of the Furkapass road. Behind the hotel you see the tongue of Rhone glacier, the origin of river Rhone.
