This terrific line up was put together by the Last Edition Beetle Register - a group of owners and enthusiasts of the last 300 Volkswagen Beetles to have been built for the United Kingdom. Last Edition Beetles were all made in 1978, originally finished in silver metallic paint, and are not to be confused with the 3000 'Last Edition' cars that VW produced in 2003 to mark the end of production in Puebla, Mexico which was the last factory anywhere in the world to produce these iconic cars. Feast your eyes on this terrific collection of old Beetles as spotted at VW North West 2011 . The green one nearest the camera is from 1952 whilst the beige one next to it is a 1956 model ... absolutely beautiful. Couple of alternative versions from the 'processing room', one HDR and the other in a painterly style, can be found in the Notes.

Official records seem to suggest that this is a 1200, but the badging identifies it as a 1300 so take your pick. Either way, it isn't in the best of condition it has to be said, but given that it's sitting outside an MOT station maybe, just maybe, there are plans afoot for this old lady to be given a new lease of life.

Came across this charming little Triumph Herald in Northallerton a few days ago and had a nice chat with the current owner. It has less than 50,000 miles on the clock, but neither of us think that's the genuine mileage given its age. It's also had a professional respray at some point over the years, but as the owner himself pointed out it's starting to go a little bit off here and there. Still, overall this car was a beauty and a rare thing indeed given it was manufactured over 50 years ago. That said, it is actually 1 of 3 that I currently know of in the town, which is quite weird really all things considered.

Another classic in yellow, but this one was a little more sedate than the Herald from earlier. The background gives an idea of the random nature of exhibits at this particular show. Seemed ideal too for adding to "Sight and Sound" ... I mean it sure looks like mellow yellow to me: youtu.be/nrbni0tVBZ8

Another lovely old car slightly spoiled by the things we show photographers hate and which were spread around in abundance at Newby Hall: leaflets, stickers, show cards and candy striped tape. Still, at least there was space to shoot this one whereas a lot of the other cars were crammed in tight against the ropes. Used every day apparently to take it's owner to and from work and on regular shopping runs too ... quite impressive in more ways than one!

Not just another cool Beetle, but another from 1972 ... it must have been a good year!
