Ready To Urk ...

18 Nov 2015 18 23 1369
This one is dedicated to all my friends in the Sunday Challenge group where the ability to urk , for some at least, has become an art form. It's actually a macro shot of the street sign for Turker Lane in Northallerton just carefully framed, cropped and tweaked. EDIT: I should have explained that it's a running joke amongst group members. For example, if you really don't fancy a particular challenge you might say urk , which is probably much better than some of the alternatives! However, as Urk is actually a real place which can be found in the Flevoland province of the central Netherlands I should say no offence intended to the good people of Urk ... I'm sure it's a lovely town! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urk

Remembering Dorian Gray ...

Taken for this week's Sunday Challenge for which we were told: "an easy one ... do what you like this week as long as there is a fence in your shot". Mine was taken whilst out cycling around town, something I try to do at least 3 times a week, and is of some clematis I spotted spilling over and growing through someone's back fence. I did also look out a few from the archives that I've never got around to uploading, but in the end this one won me over. Hit z to view large and see if it wins you over too! In a month there will be purple stars on the clematis, and year after year the green night of its leaves will hold its purple stars. But we never get back our youth. Around The Corner From Anywhere ...

This scene was captured for this week's Sunday Challenge , which had the theme of what's left . I spotted this discarded can lying against the perimiter fence of Allertonshire school in Northallerton and thought it ideal for the challenge. I also liked the crispness of the brand on what appeared to be a fairly new can and the surrounding shadows, which I hoped would give the shot some interest. Sadly, although Coke has been around since 1886 and been generally available in cans since 1960, many people still struggle it seems to either deposit the empty cans in a litter bin or take it home for recycling. And so I felt the slogan that the company used way back in 1927 to promote the product provided an ideal title for my shot, as this photograph really could have been taken around the corner from anywhere .
