Heart of Glass ...

06 Mar 2017 20 47 1482
For this week's Sunday Challenge , for which the subject title was heart . Right up until yesterday I thought I was going to need to dip into the archives as I'd been unable to find a suitable subject. Then during a visit to Ripley Castle we had a wander around the gift shop where I spotted a lovely heart shaped mirror hanging in the corner of the window display. The light wasn't all that great and I was struggling to get a clean shot, but having ran it through the processing room for a few tweaks I think it works okay. Also for Sight and Sound ... what else but Blondie and "Heart of Glass": youtu.be/gbnbMMCfyoc youtu.be/WGU_4-5RaxU youtu.be/aa911_8TP2s

Dry Stone Rider ...

Called "Le Monument" this artistic dry stone wall sculpture was created by Gordon Simpson, Master Dry Stone Waller. It was erected in 2014 and unveiled by Brian Robinson to commemorate the Tour de France, which passed the spot between Ripley and Harrogate where this piece of public art can now be admired. The shot was taken by me a few days ago for this week's Sunday Challenge , for which the theme was sport or anything to do with sport . You'll find a shot of the overall sculpture in the Notes and you can learn more about the man responsible for creating "Le Monument" by visiting the site below: www.dry-stone-waller.co.uk Or, check out this short little video on YouTube: youtu.be/urou7pxKw5o Oh, and if you're wondering, as I was, who Brian Robinson is. Well it turns out that he was the first ever Briton to finish the Tour de France and the first to win a stage in the race way back in in the 1950s.

Craftsman At Work

This is one of a series of shots I took for the recent The Sunday Challenge , which had the theme of At The Market . Griffdel Signs regularly attend Northallerton Market to promote their business and take orders for personalised hand carved signs. Not only do they show off some sample signs, but the stall holder also sets up a small display so that people can see him working with wood. A really friendly and cooperative chap, he was happy to let me take some shots: some candid and some posed. I think though that this is my favourite from the series and the only reason I didn't submit it to the main group was that I felt it maybe lacked context.
