1954 VW Transporter Type 2 (T1) - YAS 807

27 Oct 2016 15 19 2538
Described as being 'blue' on the DVLA records, this rusting, ratty-lookin' splitty was only registered here in October 2003, but having been built in 1954 it's one of the oldest examples I've come across.

Fill Her Up Please ...

Whilst out looking for interesting doors I could shoot for this week's Sunday Challenge I came across this. It's an old petrol pump, which was apparently manufactured many moons ago by Gilbarco. It has obviously seen better days, but it still caught my eye not least because of the patination. This image was produced from combining 3 bracketed RAW files and processed in Photomatix. Time at last me thinks to start another automotive album, this time capturing some of the shots I took at CumbriaVAG 2011 . A cracking little show it was held at the Heaves Hotel on the outskirts of Kendal in Cumbria although I believe more recent shows have taken elsewhere. This was one of my favourite shots of the day as it summed up all that was special about this laid back event: a great selection of vehicles, all nicely laid out, and sunshine aplenty. Oh, and that kid taking the notes could well been me 30 or 35 years ago!

VW Beetle - CAB 720 - Details Unknown

Couldn't get as much information on this one as I would have likedas it's not lised with the DVLA. However, I'm tagging it as being a Fifties version due to it having the Wolfsburg emblem at the tip of the front of the bonnet. This was a complex fabrication and supposedly on subsequent models the emblem was deleted.

Austin Allegro Vanden Plas - Details Unknown

A true 'marmite' of a car, the Austin Allegro was a common sight on British roads in the 1970s and early 1980s. This is a Vanden Plas variant, which I spotted not far from the Daihatsu Sportrak I uploaded earlier. As it happens, Vanden Plas originated in Belgium, although the name derives from the Dutch, and to be grammatically correct should be expressed Van der Plas. Check out the following link for more information on the history of the Vanden Plas name: www.vpoc.info/history.html

Sorry folks, but I can't seem to get out of the Nineties at the moment. I spotted this along with a few other old cars in what appeared to be someone's back garden on the outskirts of Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
