Five Star Review ...

For this week's Sunday Challenge , for which the subject was empty .
Probably doesn't need much in the way of explanation as it's obviously a shot of the inside of a tumble dryer - our very own in fact. Oddly enough, it's something I've thought of taking photos of in the past, but never got around to so I thought when I saw this week's challenge I'd give it a go.
Light at that end of our kitchen isn't all that great so I fell back on using my tripod and the remote control to try and get a well exposed, but steady image.
Please view large on black for best effect.
1984 Mercedes 500 SL - B175 YUB

Came across this glorious white Merc whilst out cycling in Northallerton.
The lady owner was up visiting friends or family in the area and happy for me to take some photos and have a good look at the car, both inside and out.
It was a while ago now, but I seem to remember she said that it started out life in South Africa and was brought across to England by the original owner a few years ago. not in mint condition, but very nice nonetheless for those that like their German cars big and well equipped.
The Mercedes-Benz SL has been manufactured by Mercedes since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German Sportlich-Leicht , which in English translates as Sport Lightweight .
First applied to the 300 SL, the infamous and amazingly beautiful "Gullwing" model, the classification is still in use to this day.

This shot of the gatehouse at Whorlton Castle was taken for a recent Sunday Challenge when the theme was looking down , but not used at the time.
The ruins of Whorlton Castle, a late 11th century motte-and-bailey fortress, are located on high ground to the west of the abandoned village of Whorlton.
The castle itself seemed to quickly fall into disrepair, so much so that by 1343 it was described as being 'ruinous and without yearly value'
Today, the only significant remains are those of this 14th century gatehouse, which may have been built by Lord Philip Darcy, who died in 1419.
The rectangular structure stands partially within the ditch and its entrance passage was protected by inner and outer portcullises, which you can see in my shot.
As for the village of Whorlton, it was destroyed by the Black Death to the extent that by 1428 only ten householders remained.
The Beauty Inside ...

So, a fun week for all involved with The Sunday Challenge , well at least for some and I include myself in that category.
The theme this week was HDR (High Dynamic Range) Imagery . It's a technique that really does seem to attract quite diverse opinions as I've found out over this last week as I've posted various attempts at creating an HDR image.
As it happens I've always liked HDR, at least for certain subjects and when it has been applied in a controlled and sympathetic fashion. However, it wasn't something I'd ever attempted myself until this week so as I said earlier it has been a fun week.
So much so that after playing around with the trial version of Photomatix I ended up taking the plunge and buying the software outright. If nothing else it means that I can continue to experiment with the medium without having the Photomatix watermark applied to my final creations.
This particular shot that I've ended up using as my main submission to TSC is actually taken inside All Saints Church in Northallerton. In the past I've taken several shots of the exterior, but this was the first time I'd ventured inside and I have to say I was most impressed by what I found. Not quite York Minster perhaps, but very attractive all the same.
I just hope that my HDR take on this subject helps convey at least some of the beauty and splendour of this grand old church.
By the way, this was the result of combining three RAW files: one at normal exposure, one at -1.5, and one at +1.5. You can a representation of the three base files in the Notes.

I had so much fun with this week's Sunday Challenge , which had the theme of selective colouring , that I ended up with several possibles.
Here's one of those that didn't get used. This is the interior of the little red fire engine I spotted at the Classics On Show event back in 2013.

Sticking with the American theme, here's a shot of the dashboard on Howard Dawson's lovely 1956 Corvette.

Externally this Minor was quite stunning, thanks mainly to the shade of red they'd opted for.
I liked the interior trimming too, but just felt the carpets let it down a little. Shame, because otherwise it was a gem!

Another interior shot, this time from a pale blue Cadillac.
I'm afraid I don't have the full details on this one, but I'm pretty sure it was a late Fifties model.

Here's a peek inside the 'Nitro' pick-up truck.
As you can see, it's just as clean on the inside as it is outside!

Love the interior too, especially the chrome webbing across the dash and the lovely stitching on the tuck and roll. This is 8 of 9.
