From what I've read online this is built around a Europa chassis with a Rover V8 providing the power.
Originally raced by Dimi Mavropoulos in the late 70s and then in the 80s by Terry Maynard who later restored it for the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2009.

Hard to believe that the Mk1 Ford Escort design is now the best part of 50 years old, but it is and it looks as good today as it ever did.
And although this Mexico, which looked like an angry wasp on steroids, may not be to everyone's taste it certainly grabbed attention at the show and could definitely have a space in my 'dream garage'.

Another unused shot which I considered using for The Sunday Challenge with the theme of shoot a stranger .
Like the one I ended up using as my entry, this was taken at Northallerton Rugby Club when the Harley-Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain used it to stage their North East Rally back in 2013.
And like the other one I decided to give this a mono treatment, but I went much darker with the processing and even added in some noise. I guess I was trying to give it a timeless cinematic quality as if it were taken in the days of "Easy Rider".
Not quite sure I achieved that goal, but I still like how it turned out.

The theme this week for The Sunday Challenge was shoot a stranger .
More often than not I like to take a new photo for the challenge, but this week I decided to look through my archives and find some previously 'unpublished' shots that might suit the topic.
This one was taken at Northallerton Rugby Club when the Harley-Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain used it to stage their North East Rally back in 2013.
Unlike the vast majority of car/bike shows that I attend this one wasn't open to the public - it was more an event for members with entertainment laid on over the weekend. However, I had a word with the guys on the gate to see if they thought people would mind if I went in to take some photos and they kindly agreed to let me do so.
The man in this shot was one of the first people I met and, like everyone else there, he made me feel welcome and not at all ill at ease. No real surprise though to me as I mixed with a great many real biker types during my young adult life. In fact, my best man when we got married was an ex-biker.
Anyway, back to the shot in question. I was quite happy with it in colour, but decided the subject matter might lend itself to the mono treatment, which is the route I ended up taking.
Hope you guys like it?
1986 Ford Escort - Gartrac G6 - Q181 BAO

Not another red Ford Escort I hear you cry. Ah, but look closely, this is actually a Gartrac G6 Escort.
The G6 was devised by Gartrac as a road going spin off to the successful G3 & G4 rally & rally cross cars.
Most of the cars produced were rear wheel drive and fitted with a 2.8 V6 engine giving them phenomenol acceleration and performance.
Only around thirty G6's were produced in total, although many copies were produced around this period. Whether or not this one is genuine I'm afraid I can't say, but it certainly looked the part!

1975 Toyota Celica GT - KED 139P

The Toyota Celica was produced from 1970 to 2006, with the Celica name derived from the Latin word coelica meaning "heavenly" or "celestial".
This is a First Generation model kitted out rally style, no doubt to reflec the car's motorsport pedigree.

The Audi Quattro is a road and rally car, some might even say automotive icon, which was produced by the German manufacturer. It was first shown at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show and production of the original version continued through until 1991.
Okay it might be a white one, but what the heck ... fire up the Quattro!

Yet another fairly immaculate Ford Mexico ... one of several at the show! Manufactured in 1972, but not registered until the following year.

The MkI featured contemporary styling cues in tune with its time: a subtle Detroit-inspired "Coke bottle" waistline and the "dogbone" shaped front grille. They became successful as a rally car, and they eventually went on to become one of the most successful rally cars of all time. Arguably the Escort's greatest victory was in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally and this gave rise to the Escort Mexico special edition road versions in honour of the rally car.
